Atal Tinkering Labs

Atal Tinkering Labs

Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog is Government of India’s flagship initiative to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.

With a vision to ‘Cultivate one Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators’,  Atal Innovation Mission is establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) in schools across India. The objective of this scheme is to foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mind-set, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc.

ATL BSP- Sr. Sec. School Sector-10 is the 1st ATL established in SAIL (BSP) and inaugurated on 14th October 2019 by Shri Atul Srivastava (Director – SAIL) in the presence of Shri K K Singh (Present Director Finance-SAIL) which was the dreem of Shri A K Verma (Ex. Sr. Principal & DGM-Edn.) and doing extremely well under the guidance and support of Smt. Sumita Sarkar (Present –Principal) and Tarun Kumar Sahu ( Sr. Lect.-Maths & Incharge-ATL).

ATL is a place where the students between grade 6th to 12th (across the country) are nurture through 21st century tools and technologies such as Internet of Things (IOT), 3D printing, rapid prototyping tools, robotics, electronics, do-it-yourself kits and many more. The aim is to stimulate a problem-solving innovative mind-set within the children of the ATL and nearby community.

ATL is a workspace where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands on do-it-yourself mode; and learn innovation skills. Young children will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

ATL would contain educational and learning ‘do it yourself’ kits and equipment on science, electronics, robotics, open-source microcontroller boards, sensors and 3D printers and computers. Other desirable facilities include meeting rooms and video conferencing facility.

In order to foster inventiveness among students, ATL conducts different activities ranging from school, regional and national level competitions, exhibitions, workshops on problem solving, designing and fabrication of products, lecture series etc. at periodic intervals.

ATL Objectives

  1. To create workspaces where young minds can learn innovation skills, sculpt ideas through hands-on activities, work and learn in a flexible environment.
  2. To empower our youth with the 21 century skills of creativity, innovation, critical thinking, design thinking, social and cross-cultural collaboration, ethical leadership and so on.
  3. To help build innovative solutions for India’s unique problems and thereby support India’s efforts to grow as a knowledge economy.

The coming century needs a radical and disruptive change to a student’s learning processes. With each passing day, new technology interventions by the industry are challenging the education system to create Future-ready Makers.                      ‘Tinkering’ and ‘Making’ are natural human skills that now need to be embraced with latest technology.

The Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) program has become a national movement that is revolutionizing the Education Ecosystem of India. The goals and vision of the ATL movement tie in beautifully with the National Education Policy (NEP) and will play a pivotal role to implement the ‘Experiential and Project-Based Learning’ model  in India.

The overall goal is to leapfrog the Indian education system, and create a new generation of young innovators ready to take on the further challenges, in their constant pursuit to build the New India.

The ATL introduces Indian students to a very different micro environment that allows freedom to explore new ideas, test them, and follow a ‘learning by doing’ approach. Students are introduced to new technologies and concepts where-in they begin working in teams, towards solving real world problems especially in the field of “Health, Education and Environment” to uplift the living standard of society.

ATL BSP-Senior Secondary School Sector -10,Bhilai also contributing in this movement of Nation building by providing this opportunity to all the students of our school as well as community to learn, ideate, innovate and create through their own experience and become an entrepreneur as job creator instead of job searcher.
